How the Association Operates

The Genoa Cemetery Association (GCA) operates as a non-endowment care interment property under NRS 452.140(1). As a tax-exempt 501(c)(13) cemetery, the association oversees cemetery management, burial regulations, and maintenance efforts. The association relies on community support, donations, and fees to sustain its operations.

Cemetery Rules & Regulations

Respecting and Maintaining Our Sacred Grounds

To preserve the dignity and history of Genoa Cemetery, all visitors and plot owners must follow these regulations. These rules ensure respectful care for the land and those interred here.

Burial Eligibility & Plot Ownership

  • Residency is not required – You do not need to live in Genoa to purchase a plot.

  • Burial plots are designated only for human remains.

  • All burial arrangements must be coordinated with the cemetery association.

  • Plots cannot be transferred or resold without approval from the association.

Maintenance & Groundskeeping

  • The association provides routine upkeep, including landscaping and preservation of headstones.

  • Any modifications or repairs to gravesites must be pre-approved by the association.

  • Visitors must respect the cemetery and refrain from disruptive activities.

  • Littering or disposal of waste in non-designated areas is prohibited.

Decoration Policies

  • Fresh flowers are allowed but may be removed when wilted.

  • Artificial decorations such as wreaths and mementos are permitted but must be securely placed.

  • Glass containers, large installations, and obstructive decorations are not allowed.

  • Seasonal decorations must be removed within designated timeframes.

  • Solar lights and small flags are permitted but must not interfere with maintenance.
